Chaiko Aleksandr Yurevich is a Colonel General, Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia. According to open registries, he is directly involved in Russia's full-scale military invasion of Ukraine – he commanded the 'Vostok' (East) troop grouping.
From February to April 2022, he directed the actions of subordinate forces during the operation to capture Kyiv from the western direction. Servicemen of units of the Russian Armed Forces and National Guard troops from the 'Vostok' grouping are implicated in war crimes against the civilian population in the Kyiv region.
On the evening of August 1, 2026, a bomb exploded near the Balzi Rossi restaurant in Moscow during a private celebration of Chaiko's 55th birthday; according to media reports, the general himself was the likely target of the attack. Chaiko himself was not harmed, but five other people died, including presumably his son-in-law.
