Lieutenant Colonel Maxim Sergeevich Krishtop, deputy commander of the 47th Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 105th Guards Composite Aviation Division, carried out three combat sorties in the first days of the full-scale invasion: on February 24, 2022, he conducted an airstrike with high-explosive bombs on Balakliia, and on March 3, against an armored vehicle column in the Izium area of Kharkiv Oblast. According to his own admission at a briefing broadcast by Interfax-Ukraine, during the third sortie, he realized that the targets were not military objects but residential buildings and civilians, but he carried out the order. On March 6, 2022, his Su-34 was shot down by Ukrainian air defense systems over Kharkiv; the following night, Krishtop was detained by servicemen of the National Guard of Ukraine on the outskirts of the city. On March 2, 2023, the Dzerzhynskyi District Court of Kharkiv found him guilty of bombing civilian objects and sentenced him to 12 years of imprisonment, but at the request of prosecutors, the same decision released him from serving the sentence for transfer as a prisoner of war for exchange.
