The 18th Military Transport Aviation Division traces its history back to the 270th Bomber Aviation Division (1942), which became the 6th Guards Bomber Aviation Division, and in 1966 was transformed into the 18th Guards Military Transport Aviation Division (VTAD). The original formation was disbanded, but in November 2017, the division was re-established (without Guards status) as part of the Military Transport Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces, combining the 117th (Orenburg), 708th (Taganrog), and the re-establishing 235th (Ulyanovsk) military transport aviation regiments, operating Il-76 aircraft. Open sources do not contain documented details about the division's participation in specific operations against Ukraine after 2022.
