Ukrainka is the base of a heavy bomber aviation division of long-range aviation, operating Tu-95MS and Tu-160 cruise missile carriers, which Russia uses to strike Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. The base is located 5960 km from Ukraine, making it one of the most remote and least vulnerable sites for Russian strategic aviation. After the Ukrainian Operation 'Pautina' on June 1, 2025, during which SBU FPV drones struck the Dyagilevo, Olenya, Ivanovo, and Belaya airbases, Ukrainka's importance as a 'safe rear' for long-range aviation increased; it was reported that the base was also listed among the targets of Operation 'Pautina', but the strike on it did not occur.
