The 40th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet (military unit 10103, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky) is one of the most actively used naval infantry formations of the Russian Federation in the war against Ukraine: Popasna, Vrubivka, Pavlivka, Vuhledar. The brigade suffered some of the heaviest losses for Russian naval infantry since the 1990s during the assaults on Pavlivka and Vuhledar in 2022–2023.

Involvement in crimes / areas of activity
The 40th Separate Guards Krasnodar-Harbin Twice Red Banner Naval Infantry Brigade of the Pacific Fleet has been participating in the war against Ukraine since 2022. In March 2022, together with Wagner PMC, the brigade stormed Popasna, then captured Viktorivka; in June 2022, it fought for the village of Vrubivka (Sievierodonetsk/Popasna district of LPR), where at least one serviceman of the brigade, Oleg Torov, was killed. In October–November 2022, the brigade, along with naval infantry from Vladivostok, stormed Pavlivka near Vuhledar and suffered heavy losses — 63 fighters in a single two-day attack, described as one of the heaviest for Russian naval infantry since the Chechen wars. In February 2023, the 40th Brigade, together with the 155th Naval Infantry Brigade, participated in the assault on the positions of the 72nd Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces near Vuhledar ('the largest tank battle of the war'), where both Russian brigades visually confirmed losses of at least 130 units of armored vehicles.
