The 19th Motorized Rifle Division (Military Unit 20634, now the 19th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade) was formed in 1922 in Voronezh, and in 1925 became the first Red Army formation awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor; after the Great Patriotic War, it was transferred to North Ossetia. Personnel participated in the assault on Grozny in winter 1994–1995 (Western Grouping) and in the Second Chechen War. In 2009, the division was reorganized into a brigade as part of the 58th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District — an army known as 'General Lebed's Army'. Documented details of the formation's participation in specific combat episodes against Ukraine after 2022 have not been found in the sources used.
