The 144th Guards Motorized Rifle Division is fighting in the Krasnyi Lyman direction as part of the 20th Army of the Western Military District. The most well-known episode of its combat path is a HIMARS rocket artillery strike by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in June 2023 against a formation of personnel near Kreminna, after which pro-Russian sources estimated losses at approximately 200 killed and wounded.

The 144th Guards Yelnya Red Banner Motorized Rifle Division is part of the 20th Guards Combined Arms Army of the Western Military District, operating as part of the "West" grouping. Since the beginning of the invasion, the division fought in the Lyman area in Kramatorsk Raion, then in the Svatove-Kreminna sector, Krasnyi Lyman direction. The most resonant episode occurred in June 2023: a division unit was formed up before the arrival of Army Commander General Sukhrab Akhmedov in the area of occupied Kreminna (Luhansk Oblast) and came under HIMARS MLRS and artillery fire; pro-war Russian bloggers preliminarily estimated losses at 100 killed and 100 wounded.
