The 42nd Guards Yevpatoriyska Red Banner Motorized Rifle Division is the only motorized rifle division of constant readiness, staffed predominantly by servicemen from Chechnya; its composition includes 'Akhmat' formations ('Sever-Akhmat', 'Akhmat-Russia', 'Akhmat-Chechnya') and separate Chechen battalions. Since the start of the invasion in 2022, the division, as part of the 58th Army of the Southern Military District, was transferred to Zaporizhzhia Oblast and operates within the 'Dnepr' grouping. Units of the division engaged in heavy fighting in the Orikhiv direction — in the area of Robotyne and Verbove — during attempts by the Ukrainian Armed Forces to break through Russian defenses in 2023. In 2023, the 70th and 71st Motorized Rifle Regiments of the division were awarded the honorary title 'Guards' by decrees of the President of the Russian Federation.
