Involvement in crimes / areas of activity
The 45th Separate Guards Special Purpose Brigade of the VDV participated in the battles for Hostomel in February–March 2022. According to an investigation by The Sunday Times, the brigade commander Major General Vadim Pankov ordered the execution of 30 civilians in the Bucha area and forced local residents to bury the bodies of deceased Russian servicemen. The brigade is listed among the units that Oleksiy Arestovych, advisor to the Office of the President of Ukraine, named as possibly involved in war crimes in Bucha, Hostomel, and Irpin in March 2022; independent investigators identified 13 Russian commanders considered responsible for crimes in this area.
