On April 5, 2022, Ukrainian military intelligence (GUR) published the personal data of 52 servicemen of the 96th Brigade as part of a document on individuals involved, in its assessment, in war crimes in Kyiv Oblast; the document itself is a list of personnel without descriptions of specific incidents. According to war-proekt.media, the brigade operated in the 'northern' (Kyiv) direction in 2022. Since January 2024, the brigade's UAV operators have been recorded in reports in the Kupyansk direction as part of the 'West' troop grouping. On October 16, 2024, the brigade was awarded the honorary title 'Nizhny Novgorod'.
