The 79th Guards Novozybkov Red Banner Rocket Artillery Brigade is armed with 300-mm 'Smerch' MLRS (three divisions with 4 combat vehicles each). According to Ukrainian intelligence (GUR) data from April 21, 2022, the brigade's personnel are directly involved in the invasion of Ukraine and are accused of delivering targeted artillery strikes with heavy weapons on settlements in Sumy and Kharkiv Oblasts, which led to significant civilian casualties. The GUR published the personal data of eight brigade officers, including battery and crew commanders.
