A tank regiment of the 2nd Guards Taman Motorized Rifle Division, re-established on December 21, 2016; it traces its history back to the 1st Guards Tank Brigade of 1941. Since February 24, 2022, it has been participating in Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine — according to the DIVGEN directory, units of the 2nd Guards Taman Division blocked Kyiv from the north from Chernihiv Oblast, then were redeployed to the Kharkiv direction. On March 22, 2022, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a list of 966 servicemen of the regiment accused of war crimes against the civilian population of Ukraine, including the unit's command.

On March 22, 2022, the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine published a list of the regiment's personnel (966 people) as committing war crimes against the Ukrainian people; the list included commander Lieutenant Colonel Denis Lapin, deputy commander Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Zolotko, and deputy commander for military-political work Lieutenant Colonel Konstantin Solovey. According to the independent project for documenting war criminals 'Book of Executioners' (russian-torturers.org), individual servicemen of the regiment demonstrably took direct part in hostilities in Sumy Oblast as part of the regiment's battalion tactical group.
