The 2nd Separate Guards GRU Special Purpose Brigade (military unit 64044) was created in 1962–1963 on the basis of the 20th Separate Spetsnaz Company, with the involvement of paratrooper officers from the 76th Guards Air Assault Division. Its composition includes Spetsnaz detachments (70th, 177th, 329th, 700th) and a junior specialist school. It was deployed in Chechnya starting in 1994. In the open search results used in this study, no direct data on the participation of this specific brigade in the war against Ukraine after 2022 has been found – which is honestly noted as an absence of confirmed information, rather than an absence of participation.
