полковник Александр Александрович Кравцов — нынешний командир базы (сменил полковника Михаила Ивановича Полещука, командовавшего в 2013–2021 годах, который в свою очередь сменил генерал-майора Александра Валерьевича Шушукина, 2009–2013)
The 4th Guards Vapnyarka-Berlin Red Banner Military Base was established after the Georgian-Ossetian conflicts of the 1990s and the Dagomys Agreements, and is subordinate to the Southern Military District. Its strength is approximately 4,000 personnel, armed with 40 T-72 tanks, 120 BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles, 36 2S3 Akatsiya self-propelled howitzers, 12 2S12 Sani mortars, as well as divisions of the Tochka-U missile system and Smerch MLRS. The Georgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs claims the presence of S-300 air defense systems at the base, which the Russian Ministry of Defense neither publicly confirms nor denies. No direct confirmed data on the participation of the base's personnel in hostilities against Ukraine has been found in open sources — the base's primary task is related to holding positions in South Ossetia.
