The 127th Separate Reconnaissance Brigade of the GRU (military unit 67606) was formed in Sevastopol in 2014–2015, was part of the 22nd Army Corps of the Black Sea Fleet's Coastal Troops, and later part of the 18th Combined Arms Army of the Southern Military District. In late 2022, the brigade suffered heavy losses on the left-bank Kherson region: according to Russian serviceman-blogger Yegor Guzenko, a HIMARS missile strike on joint positions of the 127th Reconnaissance Brigade and the 126th Separate Coastal Defense Brigade resulted in 12 killed and 10 wounded — by his own assessment, these were the brigade's largest losses in the war; shortly thereafter, the units were withdrawn from the left bank due to loss of combat capability. Since 2023, the brigade has been operating in the Kherson direction as part of the 'Dnepr' group of forces. On October 29, 2025, by Russian Presidential Decree No. 788, the brigade was awarded the honorary title 'Guards' 'for mass heroism and valor... in combat operations to defend the Fatherland' — on the same day, Putin met with servicemen of the brigade at Mandryka Military Hospital.
