Попов Александр Владимирович — Полковник, командир 1-й мобильной бригады РХБЗ
The 1st Guards Mobile Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Protection Brigade (military unit 71432) was formed in 1979 in the closed city of Shikhany as a detachment for liquidating the consequences of aircraft accidents involving nuclear power plants; from April 27, 1986, it participated in full strength in liquidating the consequences of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant accident, and later in operations to disarm illegal armed formations in the North Caucasus (1994-1995). On January 25, 2024, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the brigade was awarded the honorary title 'Guards' — 'for mass heroism and courage, steadfastness and bravery, displayed by the brigade's personnel in combat operations to defend the Fatherland and state interests in conditions of armed conflicts' — a wording applied exclusively to units actually involved in the war against Ukraine. Detailed data on specific combat episodes and front sectors where the brigade operated have not been found in open sources at the time of the investigation.
