The 197th Landing Ship Brigade of the Black Sea Fleet (Sevastopol) participated in the seizure of Crimea in 2014, and from 2022, in the full-scale invasion: its landing ships operated in the Mariupol direction, where at least 12 sailors of the brigade died, and the large landing ship 'Saratov' was destroyed in occupied Berdiansk.



The 197th Landing Ship Brigade (military unit 72136) was formed on July 28, 1966, based on the 83rd Water Area Protection Ship Brigade. According to an InformNapalm investigation, the crews of the brigade's ships participated in the operation to seize Crimea in 2014. Its composition includes the large landing ships 'Tsezar Kunikov', 'Novorossiysk', and 'Saratov'. The large landing ship 'Saratov' was destroyed in the occupied port of Berdiansk in March 2022 – according to Wikipedia, on March 24, 2023, a memorial plaque was unveiled in Sevastopol with the names of 12 deceased sailors of the brigade, from the crews of the ships 'Saratov', 'Novorossiysk', and 'Tsezar Kunikov', who died in the Mariupol direction.
