The 205th Separate Motorized Rifle Cossack Brigade from Budyonnovsk is one of the formations whose servicemen were personally named by Ukrainian military intelligence in connection with accusations of war crimes (a list of 32 names from the rocket artillery battalion, March 2022). The brigade also features in reports of servicemen refusing to fight and complaints about service conditions.

The 205th Separate Guards Motorized Rifle Cossack Brigade (military unit 74814) was formed in 1995 on the basis of the 167th Motorized Rifle Brigade and the 723rd Guards Motorized Rifle Regiment for operations in Chechnya, with its permanent station in Budyonnovsk. In March 2022, the Ukrainian command reported the participation of brigade units in battles near Zaporizhzhia and Mariupol. In the same month, Ukrainian military intelligence published a list of 32 servicemen from the brigade's rocket artillery battalion, suspected of war crimes against the Ukrainian population. According to the human rights publication 'Kavkaz.Realii,' refusals to participate in combat operations were recorded among the brigade's personnel; relatives of mobilized servicemen from Stavropol Krai publicly complained about service conditions. On December 13, 2024, the brigade was awarded the honorary title 'Guards'.
