The 112th Separate Helicopter Regiment from Chita has been participating in the war against Ukraine since February 2022. In July 2023, the Armed Forces of Ukraine shot down a helicopter carrying its commander, Colonel Vitaly Tabachnikov, who died and was posthumously awarded the title Hero of Russia.
