The 177th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Regiment of the Caspian Flotilla is a relatively new unit (formed in 2018 based on a battalion that fought in the Dagestan War and in Syria), which has been deployed to the Ukrainian front since the first day of the full-scale invasion and has successively operated in the Zaporizhzhia, Kherson, Bakhmut, and Kursk directions.

The 177th Separate Guards Naval Infantry Regiment (military unit 87852) of the Caspian Flotilla was formed on November 26, 2018, on the basis of the 414th Separate Naval Infantry Battalion (created in 1999 during the Dagestan War, operated in Chechnya, and partially guarded Khmeimim airfield in Syria since 2016). Since February 25, 2022, the regiment has participated in the war against Ukraine: according to open-source data on its combat path — 'Dnepr' group in the Zaporizhzhia and Kherson directions (2023), 'Yug' (South) group in the Artemivsk (Chasiv Yar) direction (2024), 'Sever' (North) group in the Kursk direction (2025). On December 18, 2023, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, the regiment was awarded the honorary title 'Guards'.
