The 58th Combined Arms Army participated in the invasion of Ukraine since 2022. The army headquarters was redeployed to Crimea before the invasion began, commanding 12-17 battalion tactical groups. The army operated in the southern direction. On July 11, 2023, the headquarters in Berdiansk was destroyed by a missile strike, killing Lieutenant General Oleg Tsokov. On September 26, 2023, the army was awarded the honorary title 'Guards' for its defense of the southern direction during Ukraine's 2023 counteroffensive.
