Elvira Nabiullina has been the Chairperson of the Central Bank of the Russian Federation since 2013. An economist and former Minister of Economic Development, she was appointed by Putin and is a key figure in maintaining the macroeconomic stability of the Russian economy, particularly following the imposition of large-scale Western sanctions.
In March 2022, she attempted to resign after the invasion of Ukraine, but Putin compelled her to remain in her position. She is included in the sanctions lists of Australia, the United States, Canada, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
