Kononov Andrei Yuryevich is a captain, assistant commander of a Tu-22M3 aircraft — military unit 33310 — of the 52nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Regiment of the 22nd Heavy Bomber Aviation Division of Long-Range Aviation of the Russian Aerospace Forces (VKS) of the Russian Armed Forces (VS RF).
According to open registries, he is involved in missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and civilian infrastructure. Specifically, Andrei Kononov, as part of a Tu-22M3 crew, committed the following crimes: — shelling of the Derhachivska hromada (community) in Kharkiv Oblast on September 27, 2022; — shelling of Dnipro city on September 29, 2022.
During the shelling, over 60 private and several multi-story residential buildings were damaged. 3 civilians were killed, including a young child, and 5 people were wounded, including a 12-year-old girl; — shelling of Zaporizhzhia city on October 9, 2022.
During a massive strike by the Russian Armed Forces, including the use of missiles from Tu-22M3 aircraft, 19 civilians were killed and 77 were wounded; — shelling of electrical substations in Odesa and Mykolaiv Oblasts on December 6, 2022; — shelling of civilian infrastructure in the village of Kodaky, Kyiv Oblast, and Dnipro city airport on December 16, 2022; — missile attack on Dnipro city on April 19, 2024, as a result of which 2 civilians were killed and 20 people were wounded.
A multi-story building and civilian infrastructure were damaged. He was eliminated along with the Tu-22M3 aircraft on April 19, 2024.
Kononov's death on this day was confirmed by the Main Intelligence Directorate (GUR) of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, which published data on the crew of the downed Tu-22M3 on August 4, 2024: according to GUR, he fell into a lake and drowned during ejection.
