Maria Alekseevna Lvova-Belova has served as Commissioner for Children's Rights in Russia since September 2021.
On March 17, 2023, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued an arrest warrant for her, along with Vladimir Putin, on charges of war crimes—the unlawful deportation and forced transfer of Ukrainian children from occupied territories to Russia, beginning February 24, 2022.
In spring 2022, she adopted a 16-year-old Ukrainian teenager from Mariupol (Filipp Golovnya), using his story as an example of Ukrainian children "transitioning" into Russian families. She is married to a priest and has a large family.
