Case summary
Yuri Podolyaka is a citizen of Ukraine who left for Russia before the full-scale invasion and became one of the most popular Z-bloggers there, with a YouTube audience of around 3 million subscribers. On April 3, 2023, the SBU notified him of suspicion under five articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine, including high treason and calls for military aggression.
According to the investigation, he participated in information and psychological operations by Russian intelligence services and regularly appeared on Russian propaganda channels, including Solovyov's talk show.
In December 2023, he was sentenced in absentia to 12 years in prison; in February 2024, the sentence was increased to 15 years—according to the SBU, for assisting in targeting missile strikes on Mykolaiv. In February 2023, Putin personally expressed gratitude to Podolyaka for his work within the Russian Military Historical Society.
