The 106th Guards Airborne (Tula) Division is one of the key VDV (Airborne Forces) formations, deployed to Kyiv in the first days of the invasion, and subsequently fought near Bakhmut, in Sumy and Donetsk Oblasts. An investigation by the 'War' project identified over 160 of its servicemen who participated in the hostilities.

The 106th Guards Airborne Division participated in battles near Kyiv in the first weeks of the invasion (February–March 2022), then was redeployed to the Soledar-Bakhmut direction and operated as part of the 'North' and 'South' troop groupings. Later, the division's Grad MLRS crews fired on positions in Sumy Oblast; on August 1, 2024, the division's assault groups occupied the settlement of Pereyizne in the Siversk direction. The Russian journalistic project 'War' (war-proekt.media) identified over 160 servicemen of the division — from the highest command of the Ministry of Defense to battalion commanders — who participated in the war.
